Breaking news! The Pantone Colour of the Year for 2019 is…

We’re excited to share the announcement of the Pantone Institute’s much-anticipated colour of the year for 2019.

And the colour is …

Living Coral 16-1546

Mark, BISON’s MD, says:

“Living Coral is a great choice and reflects the consumers’ desire for enlivening shades. I can really see our customers using Living Coral to bring a current feel to their marketing activities in 2019.”

In the build-up to Pantone’s announcement, the BISON team each predicted the colour they thought would be chosen for colour of the year. We backed several dynamic shades, such as yellow, orange and blue – these are all bright statement colours that capture the moment in the same way as Living Coral.

Reasons to be excited by the colour of the year

The Pantone Colour System, and its infamous fan-shaped catalogue and numbering system, is the world’s simplest way to communicate and match colours. The system is used to match colours in industries such as design, paint and textiles, to name a few.

The Pantone Colour of the Year was launched back in 2000 and, as well as setting colour trends across the creative industries, Pantone regard their annually chosen colour as a reflection of what’s needed in the world today.

Ultra-violet, ‘a provocative and thoughtful shade’ was the colour of the year for 2018. Linked with spiritually, the colour, according to Pantone, ‘Alludes to the mysteries of the cosmos and the unknown.’ In contrast, Living Coral, for 2019, is ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energises and enlivens with a softer edge’
