5 Sustainable Signage Solutions That Don’t Cost The Earth

Bison ISO certified

Are you a business looking to catch the eye of potential new customers? Do you want to find more eco-friendly sign solutions for your brand? If so, you’re in the right place.

Did you know that 92% of consumers say that they are more likely to use and trust brands that are environmentally conscious? With the public opinion so heavily on the side of the planet, it makes sense that your advertising materials reflect this preference, right?

Here at BISON, we’re passionate about delivering high-quality printed materials to businesses across the UK that don’t cost the earth — literally.

In this blog, our experts have put together 5 sustainable signage solutions that won’t negatively impact the planet but will make an impact on passers-by for all those eco-conscious business owners out there.

Read on to find out more…

1. Temporary Signage

If your business regularly attends events such as trade fairs or puts on a lot of seasonal promotions, you may want to consider temporary signage. Whatever the campaign or product promotion at hand, temporary signage (of all scales) is an excellent way to push the advertising surrounding it.

With our photo-quality printing services, your unique messaging can be printed to fit on windows, walls, doors, floors, and even fabric for as long or short a time period as required.

We can produce photo quality graphics onto thick/rigid paper and board substrates overcoming the concern for one-time use plastic.

What’s more, to aid the erection and removal of the signs, each design can be fitted with magnets, velcro, or eyelets.

2. Soft Signage

Next up an often overlooked signage option — soft signage. This umbrella term describes any form of signage that evades hard surfaces. For example, the large fabric flags you see at trade shows or outside stalls. Other examples include fabric graphics that fit over LED-illuminated boxes to make a brand’s logo stand out (such as the ones you will see in an Apple store).

If you’re a business looking to reuse your signage resources for financial and environmental reasons, soft signage is a perfectly viable option.

3. StreetRap

Next up is an extremely versatile signage solution: StreetRap. As the name suggests, this option allows businesses to make signage out of, well, the street!

This option sees brand imagery, wayfinding messaging, and other information installed on almost any external floor surface — textured or not.

4. Brick Wrap

Known as ‘Brick Wrap’ this innovative option allows businesses to project their brand imagery onto hard surfaces for all to see. This solution also optimises otherwise wasted wall spaces and is perfect for venues or offices with a more ‘unconventional’ architecture style.

But how does it work? Thanks to the quality conformable material we use, the signage can adhere to all manner of surfaces (even if they aren’t 100% smooth) – concrete and brick being the favourites. Optimised for both indoor and outdoor use, Brick Wrap can also be used at any scale — large or small.

Whether you’re looking to advertise at a venue such as a sports hall or to direct visitors to the entrance of your building, Brick Wrap can help. Similar to Street Wrap, although specific to walls, either or both can cover vast expanses of flooring/walls or can be strategically placed in vantage points.

Available in a design of your choice, shapes, and sizes, Brickwrap and StreetRap quite literally generates footfall for your brand!

5. Reflective Signage

If you’re looking for a solution to help with wayfinding and safety instructions, reflective signage is your best bet. Be it directional notices, health and safety bulletins or transport graphics for highways vehicles, reflective signs are eye-catching and impactful as a signage solution, especially in locations where visibility is often poor or certain rules must be adhered to.

Right, we know what you’re thinking at this point: What about the sustainable aspect? And what exactly makes these signage options sustainable? Let’s dive into it, shall we?

How do we make our signage sustainable?

Here at BISON, we are committed to designing, creating, and installing signage all without any excessive planetary impact. And we go about achieving this through the following things:

Renewable energy sources

During the pandemic we invested heavily in to the environmental credentials of the business. We installed 58 solar panels on the roof of BISON HQ making us 85% off-grid, we have also upgraded our heating and cooling systems in the factory to reduce our carbon footprint by over 75% and began transitioning our fleet to EV.

Vegan printing inks!

That’s right. Although we are a printing company, we are by no means traditional. It might be news to you but printing ink isn’t vegan! Most mainstream inks will contain products that have been tested on and/or derived from animals. However, the ink that we use in-house are 100% vegan.

By reviewing and cutting out this aspect, we can now offer the same fantastic work, but now guilt-free!

Cutting down on waste

Naturally in manufacture there will always be waste created, but cutting down on this is something we have obsessed about at BISON and we challenge daily everything that make it to the bin.

Any waste produced is zero to landfill, recycled and/or removed responsibly. We have also reduced plastic in our packaging by over 98%.
