World Book Day 2024!

MD, Mark Bidewell shares his thoughts…

Last year I set myself a goal – to read one printed book per month and I did it! It’s now a habit, I’m on track for this year too – I’ve read Nike’s Shoe Dog, Difficult Conversations and currently Pixar Animation Studios Creativity, Inc. (great recommendation Andrew Dicker).

To the “I prefer an audible” kind of a person that might sound tough – to a bookworm “pathetic, piece of cake!”.
In any case, it’s something I once hated and have more recently come to love.

My little hack – divide the total pages by thirty and forward fold the page I need to get to each day – it made for great light reading!

BISON UNIVERSITY:
I’m not the only one partial to a printed book at BISON either. Every 90 days as a team we take on a new book together. Currently, it’s Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett.

As we all read at different paces it’s done in our own time, we then share insights, questions, and have a team dialogue together the following day at the morning BISON KATA.

It’s such a joy seeing everyone come together with their printed books, scribbled and highlighted with light bulb/eureka moments and their ‘one thing’ they want to put to the rest of the team.

A great recent example inspired from the Diary of a CEO book is “What’s our absurdity at BISON?” …

Current ideas inspired from the book are, a giant bison busting out the side of the building, a hot tub on the roof and an 18-hole crazy golf course through the offices, workshop and taking up half of the BISON Village!

Still not convinced there’s a future for books? … I’ll spare you this closing thought.

Author of The Diary Of CEO is arguably the most game-changing and modern Dragonthe den has ever seen – an advocate for being 100% digital.

Yet young Steven posts almost daily on LinkedIn a photo of highlighted extracts from the many printed books he has carved out time to sit down, consume, and take inspiritation from!

Printed books people, not digital ones.

Happy World Book Day!
